Topic:Federal Motor Carrier's Safety Administrations' CSA 2010 Safety Management System
Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 (CSA 2010). What does it mean to you? Whether you're an independent carrier or part of a company fleet, if you have a DOT number, you will be affected by CSA 2010. CSA 2010 is an FMCSA initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce commercial motor vehicle-related crashes, injuries and fatalities. Elyse Mueller will introduce this new enforcement and compliance model and Safety Measurement System (SMS) which will replace Safestat effective this fall. She will talk about what CSA 2010 is, how you will be scored through the SMS, how to monitor and improve your safety data and answer questions you have about the program.

Elyse has been with the FMCSA for 20 years. She began her career in the Nebraska FMCSA Division office in Lincoln as a safety investigator and then became a Program Manager. Elyse became the State Director in 1999 and is currently the Nebraska Division Administrator. Elyse is responsible for implementing and managing FMCSA's federal enforcement programs as well as it federal grant programs to the State.

Topic:
Anatomy of a Workers Compensation Claim
Using a series of examples we will explore how workers' compensation works in the state of Nebraska. Alan Kassebaum will walk us through a review of the various benefits an employee might be entitled to receive, along with an exploration of which businesses are required to carry workers' compensation. We will also discuss what to do when an employee reports a work related injury, including a discussion of the choice of physician rule.
Speaker:
Allen Kassebaum is the Manager of the Coverage & Claims Section of the Nebraska Workers' Compensation Court. The Coverage & Claims Section is responsible for researching and investigating claims, and working with those parties who have obligations under the Nebraska Workers' Compensation Act to ensure compliance. The Section is also involved in identifying uninsured employers, monitoring for proper filing of first reports, overseeing the Nebraska Schedule of Medical and Hospital Fees, and monitoring the Certified Managed Care Programs in Nebraska.

Topic:Work Place Violence Prevention
Violence in the workplace is a serious safety and health issue. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workplace homicide is the fourth-leading cause of fatal occupational injury in the US. Jim Dale will address the need for proper planning in developing a workplace violence prevention program. The discussion will also include threat assessments, threat management, potential signs of violence and working with law enforcement.

Prior to joining Continuum, Jim served as the senior security executive with Avery Dennison, TAP Pharmaceuticals, ConAgra Foods, and Inacom Corporation. Dale was also a career officer and special agent with the US Air Force and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He is board certified in Security Management by the American Society for Industrial Security and is also a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
